  • Paranormal Activity 4 Review *SPOILER ALERT*

I love horror movies. I am an absolute fanatic when it comes to all that bloody, slashy, gorey fun. I love being scared and I love scaring other people. I enjoy a good scare every once in a while which is why I thought I would love Paranormal Activity 4. (Not to mention, I enjoyed the first three films.) However, I was wrong. I didn’t love this, I thought it was a big pile of Meh. Just as a preliminary warning, this review WILL contain spoilers…

The movie utilizes webcams as the main source of footage. Well, webcams and that annoying fat kid’s iPhone camera. I give them props for the use of the Xbox connect and the night vision effect on one of the cameras. The result was an eerie otherworldly effect of thousands of little dots projected onto every surface of the living room. Even still they could have taken advantage of that for an even scarier movie but they only showed a few ghosties and made me a very sad boy.

The “plot” (and I use the term very loosely) revolved around a teenage girl, her awkward, perverted boyfriend and her little adopted brother. The biggest plot twist was the fact that the adopted brother was the kid from the other movies, which I probably should have picked up on quicker but I guess I was paying too much attention to the suckiness. Basically, there’s a little creepy kid from across the street that tries to lure the adopted boy back to the his Aunt so she can do some messed up ritual that she’s been trying to do for four movies.

Once the coven of witches appeared at the end of this movie I came to realize  that there really was no plot line after all. To top it all off, there was no surprise at the end. I was expecting something shocking to at least comfort me for a few hours and make me feel like I didn’t waste all my money. But no. There was no “Oh my God the ghosts were actually aliens and they’re all getting abducted” and there  certainly wasn’t any “No way! There were never any ghosts to begin with, it was all in some little boy’s imagination” There was only a lot of disappointment and sadness.

Paranormal Activity 4 was just a lot of waiting for something to happen and then being sad when literally nothing happened. See it, because it was entertaining, but don’t expect a well thought out plot. Thank you for reading this and I hope you have a good time doing whatever it is you are doing, will be doing or are planning on doing in the near future. PEACE
